Recent Developments

The Bedford Borough/Bedford Township Joint Municipal Authority (BJMA) is working on the next phase of the trail project, which is a link between Fort Bedford Park in the Borough, and the Omni Bedford Springs Resort in the Township. The BJMA has submitted two applications to support continued design and construction of the Bedford Heritage Trail.  The first application is to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to request funds needed to do final engineering design plans, and trail construction.  This grant program requires a 50-50 match from another source.  The second application is to Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development (SAP&D) and requests transportation enhancement funds for trail construction.  Any funds obtained from SAP&D can be used to match DCNR construction funds.  While these applications are under review, the BJMA has contacted local businesses for contributions of materials and/or labor.  Clark Construction, New Enterprise Stone and Lime and Omni Bedford Springs Resort have responded posivitely.

Donations in support of the trail are welcome. Please send to:

People for Parks

http://bedfordpeopleforparks.weebly.com

Our mission is to work together to provide valuable recreational resources for all children, adults, and families who reside in or visit Bedford. Currently, we are working with Leathers Associates to design and build a new playground at an existing park, called the Greens, in Bedford Borough. Fundraising efforts are ongoing. Contributors have the opportunity to sponsor a playground component, and/or purchase a picket or hand print tile.

The next event is Monday Night Music for the Parks, held at the Greens, across from the Bedford Gazette Building at 424 West Penn St., on Monday August 6, 6p.m. to dark. Four music groups will provide entertainment: The Baby Boomers, the Highlites, Bedford Brass, and Mixing Numbers with Sounds. Donations before or at the event are welcome.

People for Parks will have a booth at National Night Out, August 7, in the public squares, Downtown Bedford, and at Hot Summer Nights, Thursday, August 16, same location.

People for Parks has arranged with Community Foundation for the Alleghenies to handles its funds and accounting. Therefore, contributions need to be made at the Community Foundations for the Alleghenies website, or checks made out and sent to the Foundation at:
